MEDITATION

"Writing is a form of meditation, a way to still the mind and find clarity and inner peace."

What Are Writing Meditations?

Writing meditations can be short (less than 20 minutes) or longer. In just a few short minutes, you can tap into your inner calm and clarity by sitting down to write hiragana. Choose a word that resonates with you as a personal mantra, and use it to guide your practice. Whether you switch it up each day or stick with the same word for an extended period, the benefits of writing meditation are boundless. Take a few moments to enrich your mind, body, and spirit through the art of writing mediation.

How to meditate?

Meditation is a powerful tool for relaxation, self-awareness, and overall well-being. It can help you calm your mind, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of inner peace. So, how can you meditate with writing Japanese? Here are some tips to get you started.

By following these steps, you can create a meditative experience that combines the calming effects of mindfulness with the focus and intentionality of writing Japanese. You may find that this practice helps you feel more centered, grounded, and present in your daily life. Give it a try and see how it feels for you!

Step 1: Preparation

  • Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit
  • Optionally, set a timer for your desired meditation length.
  • Choose a word or phrase to use as a mantra.
  • Take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your body.
  • Open your eyes when you feel more centered, and breath naturally.

Step 2: Begin Writing Meditation

  • Begin writing the word slowly, intentionally, and repeatedly.
  • As you write, focus on the physical sensations of the pen or pencil on the paper and the movements of your hand.
  • If your mind wanders, gently bring your focus back to the word and the act of writing.

Step 3: Reflect on your experience

  • When the timer goes off or the paper or the page of this book filled with the words, stop writing.
  • Put your pen or pencil down and close your eyes.
  • Take a moment to reflect on your experience. Sit with the feeling of accomplishment and the sense of connection to your chosen word.
  • You can then continue to meditate for as long as you like, or you can slowly come back to the present moment and open your eyes slowly.
